It’s official! We are now a family of three! Nash Carter Nulton joined us on December 15th at . He weighed 7lbs 6oz and was 20 and ¼ inches long. Seth and I are completely in love with the little guy, and we are having a blast getting to know him.
On Tuesday, December 13th the hospital called and told me to arrive at for the induction. Seth, our mothers, and I checked in at the hospital and the waiting game started. Over the next 20 hours, I didn’t have much progress. My contractions started 15 minutes before they were going to give me a break for the rest of Wednesday night. They were very strong and painful, so I got the epidural around Getting an epidural was the BEST choice I could have made. After about 5 minutes I didn’t feel another contraction for the rest of the night! Yes, I know I won’t get the imaginary trophy that women get when they deliver sans drugs, but I think I will live. J After about 9 and ½ hours of active labor, sweet Nash graced us with his presence. The second they put him on my chest, he stopped crying and just stared at me for about 5 minutes. It was adorable. Seth was a proud, glowing daddy! Our mothers were at the hospital, and they were so excited to meet their new grandson! We got out of the hospital about 36 hours later, and we were DELIGHTED to go home. The first couple of days at home were chaotic. We were exhausted from trying to figure out Nash’s eating and sleeping schedule. Seth’s dad came to meet Nash, and it was nice to have him stay for a couple of days. Seth was able to kick back and have a beer with his dad- much needed after the week we had!
On Monday, December 19th, we flew to Tulsa for a quick trip. We wanted to get Nash’s pictures taken by the best newborn photographer, Kristen Mackey of Son Kissed Photography. She did a fabulous job, and the pictures are wonderful. For a sneak peek, visit her blog at http://www.sonkissedphotography.com/blog/. Scroll down the page and you will see Nash’s pictures under the heading with his name. Nash also got to meet my family in Oklahoma , and he loved them! He was also excited to be in the state where he will attend college one day! J He has already spoken his first words- “Go Pokes!!” Nash was such a good traveler, and he did not make a sound on either flight. He slept in his daddy’s arms and was such a good boy!
Since we got home, we have been focused on getting a consistent sleep schedule for the little guy. Since he was born, he has mixed up his days and nights a few times, but for the most part, he does well at night. Today we took him to see Santa Claus. We had to wait in line for 2 and ½ hours! Several diaper/outfit changes later, we got to see Santa. It was an exhausting day! The good part is that Santa told Nash he was on the “Nice List.” I have a feeling he will get everything on his Christmas list. J
Poor Zoey. She is still trying to figure out what is happening. I think she feels a bit neglected. To make matters worse, we have had snowy/cold weather, so Seth can’t take her for her regular walks and rabbit hunts. She is very interested in Nash, but she is a bit scared of him. When we first brought him home, she would jump on our bed and stare down at Nash when he was in the Pack-N-Play. She is still a bit curious but seems to be protective of Nash. I have a feeling they will be best buds in the near future. J
I have to take a moment to brag on Seth. He is the most OUTSTANDING dad and husband! Nash and I are lucky to have him. In the hospital, Seth was such a great support during labor and delivery. He was such a good coach/teammate. Seth changed every single diaper when we were in the hospital. I was in pain, which made it difficult to get out of bed. Seth took the lead on everything. He changed diapers, helped give Nash his first bath, accompanied Nash on all if his tests/activities out of our room, etc. Since we have been home, things have not changed. Seth is the king of diaper duty. He gets up with me in the middle of the night, and while I prepare to feed/nurse, Seth changes diapers or does whatever he can do to help. Seth cleans the house, runs bath water for me, watches Nash while I nap, and tells me I look pretty (I know I have looked horrible the last week and a half- and he makes me feel better). He is so excited to be a dad, and it is the sweetest thing to see him with his son. Nash and I love him with all of our hearts!
